Day 136
San Diego, Ca
Joan was jumping around in the morning and eager to show us around. The torrential downpour the previous night hadn’t dampened her enthusiasm and we set off in the blissful sunshine to explore the downtown area where she lived. I don’t know where she gets her energy but I could do with some. She dragged us all over, looping back and forth across town until I couldn’t remember where anything was. I had multiple recommendations for places to eat if only I could remember where they were. We stopped at the Hard Rock Hotel and failed to get up on the rooftop bar to have a look over the city. I consoled myself by looking at Madonna’s ‘like a virgin’ bra. I really can’t stand the Hard Rock chain, I see no reason for their existence apart from gathering together a load of trivial rock memorabilia. The did have a Lennon sketch though which was cool, but thanks to them completely out of my price range!
I wanted a surfboard and San Diego was possibly the last cheap place I would find one so I set off to a place called ‘Play it again Sports’ which sold second hand gear while Sheena went shopping and Joan went to work. I drove up to Pacific Beach and found quite a selection and wandered around all the thrift stores that congregated nearby. I wasn’t just to buy from the first place I saw though and got directions to a few other places and spent another couple of hours and too much gas discovering I should have just bought from the first place. :p I was so far out of my way that I nearly missed my appointment with Sheena who was holding Joans spare keys and no mobile with which to tell her I wanted letting in. I was expecting some crazy activity from Sheena but after an hour of using the computers down near the lobby I came back to find her nearly asleep! Some party animal Sheena Pinder! She managed to stay awake long enough for us to watch Juno which was fun! 8/10.
