Day 106 Ruidoso, Nm

Well I was up for 8am just about, I gazed longingly at the breakfast bar which looked quite good but we didn’t have time for that. We high tailed it over to the house and… sat around the table smoking cigarettes and drinking coffee for 2 hours. I dont know what they were doing but it wasn’t driving. So much for the early start. I got some breakfast but it would have been nice to get 2 breakfasts in :p Eventually we got packed up and ready to roll. My minivan now only has 4 seats but I was required to seat 5 which I wasn’t exactly thrilled about but what could I do. We first had to cross over the border and had been asked to put something in my cooler (it was the fish dish from xmas eve). It did cross my mind that I was smuggling a huge hash cake or something, but the US border does that to you. US jails are just too scary. We went across with no problems though, the guy looked at the passports and waved us through. Easiest border crossing ever. We needed to do some stuff at Walmart and we met up there. It gave me a chance to pick up some cellphone credit since I had used all mine up sending xmas texts.

I filled up the beast and we set off up the Interstate to Ruidoso. We got stopped at a checkpoint a few miles out of El Paso and everyone had their passports checked. I guess that’s a part of living so close to Mexico. I wondered if it was the same over the border. I was soon going to be finding out…. When we got up to the town we found the rented house with no problems thanks to GPS Jane but it wasn’t ready so we went back into town for some food. I discovered Dani was pretty much a pool virgin and gave her a few tips. I thought she was a student! I gave her a stern warning to get down the Uni bar and play pool as much as possible when she returned to school! It was bloody freezing in Ruidoso and there was ice all over the place and quite a bit of snow. Not enough to go skiing I reckoned but we we’re at the ski field yet…

Back at the house after the meal it was finally ready and I went back with the ‘kids’ to chill out while the ‘adults’ went off shopping.  I counted the beds though and it looked like I was going to be on the floor again :p I didn’t mind. It had 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms and even a fusball table, sadly without any balls. There was also cable TV and wireless Internet so I was quite happy surfing and watching Seinfeld all night. When the rest of the team came back they broke out the beer and fags and proceeded to get down with enjoying themselves all night. I was slightly concerned about the ‘no smoking’ signs on the door and everyone puffing away but it wasn’t my place to complain. I was knackered and it was time to turn in but the Mexicans were just getting started. At 2am most of them went off to the Casino! Apparently we were due to get up early again in the morning to check out the ski fields. I didn’t bother to set my alarm, I was guessing I would be getting a lie in…. :p
