Today was Halloween, and my first in America. I didn’t feel very scary when I drove down to the wreckers yard to pick up a spare wheel and some parts for Miriams car which had been canabalised by her mother. It was a complete waste of time, I ended up getting parts for a ’97 Honda not her ’96 which didn’t fit. Of course when I was there I was thinking ‘I should have taken some photographs of the needed parts’ but by then it was too late. I didn’t even take my phone in so couldn’t ring to ask what they looked like. I did get one part for my van though, the part that holds my new battery in place so at least it wont be rattling around under the hood anymore. The guy who checked out my useless parts was so unhelpful with my enquiries about a spare wheel I didn’t bother (and it would cost me another dollar to get back into the yard…). The spare wheel I have at the moment is a little useless 30 mile donut that can’t be relied upon and rather rusty as it is.

Seems there was a hurricane just off the coast and I drove back up via Miami to maybe go for a swim. The sea’s were incredibly rough though and it was kinda dodgy going in with the rips and swells. The surfers and kite-surfers were having a great time though even if they were taking a few risks. Sadly (although not for the locals) the hurricane would pass by florida and hit the Bahamas instead, it is a weather phenomenon I will have to catch in Central America.

I hung out in the Panera bread place that has free wifi until the evening, catching up on my internet addiction. Its kinda weird not having 24/7 access anymore and having to actively look for places where I can get a fix. I haven’t seen a movie for weeks as my downloading habit is curtailed. I went back to miriams and we got ready to go out trick or treating :p Well, we covered ourselves in white and black paint, I poured red paint all down my front and we started moaning ‘brains’ a lot. I ended up getting red all over my car but it was ok. Down in Miami we attempted to meet up with Sunita our couchsurfing friend but were overwhelmed by the sheer mass of people all out downtown and out for a good time. It was warm and despite the threatening rain there must have been two thousand people in costume and the same just gawking. Some of the costumes were pretty amazing, but what wasn’t amazing was my inability to charge a camera battery which died after 2 shots. This will teach me to stick it on the outside of my car for random street shots every 10 seconds!

We eventually caught up with Sunita and Hirokee who we had also met on Sunday and hung out until the rain started pouring down. She had, rather cheekily, said we couldn’t come unless we were in costume but she just had doctors scrubs on which was a bit lazy. Hirokee hadn’t bothered and since it was his first Halloween outside of New Jersey was amazed at the amount and variety of costumes. I wish I had my slr with me but since the red paint was still wet (and getting on everyone who brushed against me) probably wasn’t a good idea. Next year!
