The woods smelled of strawberries, but maybe that was just wishful thinking as the season was too late. Maybe it was the ones Daniella had brought with her, we ate some for breakfast, but not poor Mounia as she is allergic. Somehow we had managed to stay up until midnight and didn’t drag ourselves out of our tents until 11am. I had a cold night despite my down sleeping bag and crappy sleeping mat. Perhaps another couple of pairs of socks would have stopped my feet feeling like ice blocks.
We had a drive around the park road looking for the waterfalls that Renae had been to before but she wasn’t sure where they were. The ones we thought it would be turned out to be only accessible by canoe. It was quite late in the season but it seemed there will still some to rent, however I was outvoted and there would be no canoing, just hiking. Still we couldn’t find where we wanted to go, the falls were hidden so after 10 minutes looking at a random lake we returned the same way and found another trailhead.
The Park is just getting the nice colours, I got my shorts and sandals out for some late summer action and kicked up the GPS to follow our route. This turned out to be a god send as at the end of the trail we ended up asking some stupid people who sent us back on the loop of a trail we had done half of. Looking at the lines on my phone which the GPS was drawing and the dodgy map we were using proved that we were heading the wrong way and sure enough, back at the junction the road was only 50m away, hidden in the trees.
There wasn’t a great deal of wildlife to be seen, the occasional chipmunk would be seen hopping about and a few squirrels. It was nice to be out getting some much needed fresh air and the girls were all great company. It seemed the slips of the tongue the night before were all forgiven
I blame the Mexican Beer. I got to try out my new grey filter on the small falls we found, which should turn the water into a white stream you see on the professional photos. I need a better PC to tweak the photos after I take them to get nicer levels, but that should be on the cards soon. I didn’t get to have my swim, but maybe it was a bit cold. There were some clouds on the Sunday though so no stars but a warmer night was ahead.
Back at the camp the wood chopper was closed so we wandered the other camp sites in the falling dusk picking up half burnt lumps of wood and fallen logs, we weren’t going to freeze again! Food always tastes best when you have worked for it and the long awaited Tortillas were especially tasty. For dessert we had a weird concoction of apple, peanut butter and marshmallows wrapped in tin foil. It was a bit of a hit and miss though, only Mounia got a nice one, its a recipe that needs some work. We broke out the ipods and speakers and roasted Marshmallows and drank beer until the sole other campers shouted at us to shut up (why they were in the next lot wasn’t very clear, but it was late enough to encourage us to get into our, now much warmer, tents).
