About
In September 2007 I left the UK with a dream. I would buy a vehicle in the US and drive all the way to Tierra Del Fuego in South America. That was 4 years ago… Since then I have travelled through over a dozen countries, met a thousand people, stayed in a hundred places, gained and lost a few girlfriends and made scores of friends.
I have a problem. Twenty countries for this trip is not enough. I want to see them all.
I will be the first person to travel *overland* to every country in the world. No connecting flights.
I am documenting every country and will be selling limited edition prints at very reasonable rates from every country I travel to soon, please fill in the contact form if you wish to know when.
About my Pictures:
The key to a great photography is hard to define. It’s a combination of all the elements involved, light, timing, equipment, skill, post processing and luck. Sometimes a lot of luck
But fortune favours the prepared. At the moment I carry the following Canon gear:
5d Mark II | 7D | 35L F1.4 |16-35L 2.8 | 70-200L F4 IS | 100-400L | 17-55 EF-S 2.8 IS | 1.4x TC | 430EX ii | 580EX ii | Giottos Vitruvian
Its probably a bit much really, but while I still have a car it’s quite manageable.
I post process in Adobe Lightroom for 99% of my pictures, PS5 is used occasionally. I bracket a lot. I make a few HDR’s but mostly just store the images for when I will have access to a proper desktop PC.
My ‘keeper’ rate is about 5-8%. I delete any obviously bad stuff and keep most of it. It’s nice to see where you came from.
About my Site:
I run WordPress hosted on Dreamhost. They’re fairly reliable. At the moment I use the Modularity Lite theme, which looks quite nice I think. I keep meaning to design my own theme one day.
I try not to overdo the plugins but I run Akismet, Google Analytics for WordPress, Google XML Sitemaps, WP Super Cache and Fast Secure Contact Form as a matter of course.
I also like to have some automation going with these plugins:
PhotoQ has several hundred processed and tagged pictures in the queue and a cronjob on dreamhost adds a new image every 12 hours. I love this plugin, whenever I process a batch of images I just export them as 950px jpgs into my ftp server and the plugin does the rest.
Add link to Facebook creates a new facebook link for every new post that appears. I wish there was one for Google+…
Facebook Connect pulls any comments from my facebook page and adds them to my blog.
TagPig automatically creates tags for any new posts and pictures.
Windows Live Writer is a great way of creating WYSIWYG posts offline. I also use the WordPress app on my ipod touch.
